Budapest, the capital city of Hungary has got a bit of a reputation in Eastern Europe for being the ‘hip’ place for people to head if they want to experience a youthful atmosphere.
A fantastic music scene, with a particular focus on classical dominates the offerings here, but the night life with slightly more modern music is something to be marvelled at too. If you are a family, you shouldn’t worry too much. The youth here are not too ‘out of it’ like you experience in England for the most part it remains a pretty calm place to visit. Let’s take a little look at a few of the things that you can do and see whilst in Budapest.
Firstly, let’s start with the beauty of Budapest. It has certainly obtained the nickname ‘Paris of the East’ for a good reason. The city is dominated by some of the most beautiful buildings you are likely to find in Eastern Europe, in fact, some of the most beautiful in Europe for that matter. Couple that with the beautiful scenery that encapsulates Budapest and you certainly have a holiday which requires the use of a camera.
Nowadays, many people are actually heading to Budapest in order to sample the unique night life. During the summer months it really feels like a party all the time, but as I said, it is still calm enough for families to have an enjoyable time. If you are a youth though and looking for somewhere a little more unique to visit but isn’t going to blow a hole in your wallet then this certainly is one of the best places to head for you.
If you want to sample the majority of the ‘top attractions’ in this area then you need to head to Castle Hill. This is where the majority of the tourists in Budapest congregate. One of the best sights here is the stunning Royal Palace, seated on the top of the hill, which offers amazing views over the whole city. Again, this is going to be a time when you want to whip out the camera as there will be nowhere else in the world to experience sights like this. Around this area you also have a church, The Lions Courtyard and the National Gallery. Each of them a respected ‘attraction’ in their own right.
Head to the downtown area and you have a number of museums waiting for you to visit. The majority of them focus on the Nazi persecution of the Jews and can be quite a harrowing experience, although very educational. ‘The House of Horror’ is one of the more famous of these.
The final place I wish to highlight, but by all means not the last of the best ones to visit is Aquincum. This is the ruins of a Roman City that used to be in the area, and it really is a fantastic place to walk around for people of all ages.
Remember, this is just a small smattering of the various things on offer in this absolutely wonderful city. You really do need to book a cheap flight and a hotel and stay here, honestly, it is a decision that you will never regret and you will most likely want to return to Budapest again and again, I know I did!
