Travel to Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast, or Cote d’Ivoire if preferred, is an interesting mix of cultures. The official language is French, but about 80 different languages are spoken throughout this African nation. You will find indigenous faiths mingling with some of the world’s largest religions. You will even find fusion within the culinary scenes of its major cities, such as Abidjan.

If you love a good adventure, then plan to climb Mount Nienokoue during your stay. It may be called a mountain, but the total elevation change is only 230 meters. At the top, you’ll find stunning views, while the journey involves forest interactions and the chance to see some exotic creatures. Should the weather cooperate, climbing Mount Tonkoui is another good trekking adventure to consider.

You will find a thriving nightlife is available throughout the Ivory Coast as well. Restaurants offer a mixture of Lebanese and French dining options. One surprisingly good find in Abidjan are the fried spring rolls from local Vietnamese shops. Be sure to enjoy the pineapple, papayas, and mangoes that seem to be everywhere you turn.

Try visiting Tanu Sakkasu to see how the black pottery of the Ivory Coast is made in the traditional manner. A visit to the Wananiere Village des Tisserands, which is near Korhogo, can let you see how the traditional cloths are made as well.

There are certain challenges to a holiday in the Ivory Coast, but the rewards are many. It is certainly one of Africa’s best destinations to consider.
