Trinity Beach

Trinity Beach is blessed with a tropical climate that gives it year-round high temperatures, topping 30°C in the summer months and falling only to the low 20s in winter, occasionally to the late teens. The wet, monsoon season usually runs from November to March, so the best time to visit if you want to avoid downpours is any other time.

Staying in Trinity Beach gives direct access to one of the major tourist attractions in all of Australia, and one of the wonders of the world: the Great Barrier Reef. This shimmering scaffolding of coral that’s visible from space – the only living thing that is – and extends to 2,700 kilometres is the world’s largest coral reef. From Trinity Beach, you can take a day trip and explore this natural wonder by snorkelling or scuba diving.

Back on land, the main draw in the area is Trinity Beach itself. There, you can laze about soaking up the rays and cooling off in the sea.

Another thrilling experience is the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, where you can glide above the canopy of the World Heritage-listed Tropical Rainforest. Six-person gondolas ferry people over 7.5 kilometres of primordial rainforest, and you can get off at two points, Red Peak and Barron Falls, so you can see the rainforest from the ground up. Skyrail has been voted Australia’s Best Major Tourist Attraction, and should not be missed during your stay in Trinity Beach.

There’s plenty more to see and do, including Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, Kuranda Scenic Railway and, if you’re up for it, skydiving and microlight flying.

In the evening, relax and unwind in this wonderfully carefree environment and enjoy some of the best food and drink Australia has to offer. Given the abundance of the waters beside it, there’s lots of seafood, but international dishes also feature prominently at restaurants.

Where is Trinity Beach ?

Trinity Beach may be a suburb of the Queensland city of Cairns, but it packs a big tourist punch due to its tropical and oceanside environment. The entire area is only nine square kilometres, but crammed into that small size are three parks and just under 4,000 residents, the majority of whom are young, thereby giving a vibrant edge to the place. Trinity Beach is only about 20 minutes from Cairns and 15 minutes from the city’s airport. The beach itself is a major draw in the area, and you’ll find all the amenities and facilities available in town.
