What to see and do in Buleleng ?

A holiday to the Buleleng regency would not be complete without visiting the Singa Ambara Raja. The winged lion statue is the area’s most famous landmark, encapsulating the valiant spirit of the Buleleng people. Located near the tourist office, the statue is a great starting point to explore the area.

Ideally located on the beautiful northern side of Bali, Buleleng boasts stunning scenery. With a wealth of natural attractions and activities, a stay in this region is anything but boring. From the coast to the centre of town, there is so much to see and do.

A natural wonder unique to Buleleng is the Banjar Tegah Hot Springs. The slightly sulphuric hot springs amaze tourists from around the world. Hidden behind hills, hot water spills down the tiered bathing pools. With souvenir shops and a restaurant, the hot springs are the ideal place to spend a relaxing and rejuvenating day.

Towards the coast lies Lovina, Buleleng’s main beach and tourist area. This is the perfect place to experience Bali’s infamous black beaches. Palm trees line the beach where dark sand contrasts with clear water. Lovina provides tourists with the opportunity to swim, snorkel and sail in the sea, or to simply sit on the sand and enjoy the view.

Off the coast lies Deer Island, an internationally renowned marine park. As a part of the West Bali National Park, the small island is home to the incredibly rare Java Deer. Spend a day searching for the protected creatures or experience the excellent snorkelling and diving around the island.

Back on the mainland; visit one of the many culturally significant temples in the Buleleng regency. The Ponjok Batu Temple offers a unique experience; the name of the temple translates as a pile of stones and it definitely lives up to this title. The temple sits on a rocky cliff overlooking the ocean so it’s an ideal place to take in the view. An added bonus is a freshwater spring located on the beach below.

The Buleleng regency is rich in both culture and history. The area is home to a town said to be the oldest village in north Bali, Julah. The town offers an insight into Bali’s past, exuding history and antiquity.
