What to see and do in Pekutatan ?
The ‘must see’ beaches of Pekutatan include Medewi beach located just five minutes from Pekutatan town centre, the area is known for its excellent surfing and most visitors who do stay here stay for that reason alone. For the traveller less interested in surfing Pekutatan offers a glimpse of what so much of Bali was like before the country became such a popular holiday destination, a perfect place for rest and relaxation.
The second most popular beach can be reached by turning left at Pekutatan Market and by no means is it second rate. On a clear day, the rocky Pekutatan beach offers a beautiful view to the southern headland of the neighboring island of Java, you can lose yourself just walking along the beach taking in your surrounds.
Watching the local fishermen bringing in their catch just east of the river mouth is also a fascinating sight, you can buy directly from them cheap and fresh seafood of dizzying varieties. If you are an early riser and get down there usually by 10am you can watch the fishermens wives mending nets, sales taking place, Balinese kids playing, and boats being hauled out of the water. Much of this seafood is sold at the Pekutatan markets located right near the main beach.
Pekutatan Village is well-known for its outstanding beauty and its close proximity to the west Bali National Park. The habitat is very varied with rainforest, dry savanna, acacia scrub and lowland forests. There are also some pockets of dense mangrove forest where you almost feel like you are walking into a fairytale.
In the north of the park there is a peninsula called Prapat Agung where if carefully navigated you can find long stretches of protected beach and offshore coral reef, as well as a small offshore island called Menjangan, which is a very popular diving spot.
