Travel to Ungasan

The south coast of Bali has more to offer than the average traveller realises. With unrivalled panoramic views of the Indian ocean and located out of the busy tourist areas you cannot look past Ungasan if you are after a relaxing holiday with no hassles. Good karma is all over this town with spas, villas, resorts and beaches to send you floating through your holiday at a glacial pace. Ungasan is the place to go for a Balinese cultural experience with traditional dances and rituals performed exactly as they were hundreds of years ago. It is the beach clubs that sing praises for Ungasan, sit back and enjoy the impeccable service on the beach while slurping back a tropical cocktail.

If there were two words to describe Ungasan they would be ‘absolute luxury’. Whether you prefer an all inclusive resort with an Olympic sized swimming pool surrounded by palm trees or if a beach side spa and villa is more your style, where you can walk from your back door onto the soft sandy beach for a morning swim you are guaranteed to enjoy all that Ungasan has to offer. This secluded southern village can provide a unique holiday for the whole family or for a romantic honeymoon at one of the most luxurious hotels Bali has to offer.

Best of Ungasan

The best time of year to visit Ungasan is between April and September, the weather hasn’t become too humid, if you are looking to avoid the crowds then September is the perfect month.

Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park with its beautiful panoramic view and one of the best Kecak Dance performance in Bali is a must see when visiting the village of Ungasan. The cultural park houses three statues, the hand of Wisnu, Garuda of Wisnu, the giant bird, and the last and most well known statue is the Wisnu, the head and half the body. These statues are to be joined together as one in the future as they give a great insight into the history and practices of Balinese cultural beliefs. A popular wedding venue, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is an all in one tourist destination.

There are two main beaches that attract the locals and visitors alike, Karma beach takes the cake of south coast beaches, with beautiful views and a beach club to rival all others this beach is the place to go if a stiff drink and a reclining deck chair is what you are after. The reason Karma beach is so popular is not only does it offer these things it also houses world class cuisine and is well known for its fabulous entertainment including an outdoor nightclub under the stars. This beach transforms itself during the day back to its family friendly status with enough water sports to keep all the family occupied for the rest of the day. It is the perfect spot to go snorkelling because of the reef that protects the beach and who can say no to the cable car ride that is required to get down past the cliffs onto this magnificent beach.

The other and even more secluded beach is the Green Bowl beach, down some 300 or more steps you are met with a hidden beach. There are white sands as far as the eye can see, great waves for swimming, rock pools and some wonderful bat caves, enter if you dare. Because of its secluded location it is not abnormal that you might find yourself almost alone. The perfect beach to read a book, take a nap and feel the calm ambiance. You will need that rest and relaxation to prepare yourself to climb the steep stairs on your way back into town.

Being a smaller village, Ungasan is the perfect place to experience that local Balinese cuisine experience, either from a local or most accommodation have their own restaurants with a variety of cuisines available.
