What to see and do in Pecatu ?
The best time of year to visit Pecatu is during the dry season, May to October, the western side of the peninsula creates some of the world’s best waves. If waves aren’t your cup of tea then a perfect time to visit to avoid the crowds is around September.
The main beach is found to be most popular with surfers was originally named Dreamland Beach, found after hiking down a small path. In recent years the beach has been renamed New Kuta Beach and for the visitor who chooses to stay here it is the expression of hope and dreams come true with its luxurious cliff top views and remote location. With the narrow beach just below the cliff walls it is perfect for watching the sensational sunset or the gutsy surfers catching a legendary Balinese wave. This is a big attraction as these waves are not for beginners! For a day the whole family can participate in the New Kuta water park is always a great option.
Another great surf spot in Pecatu is located at Balangan beach just north of New Kuta beach. With its clear blue waves, white sandy beach and easy access, Balangan is hard to resist, you can rent a surfboard from one of the beach tents and hang ten.
Padang Padang Beach is probably the second well known beach in Pecatu not only from the film ‘Eat Pray Love’ but from its limestone cave entrance which provides an experience in itself, the sea is much calmer hear so perfect for families with kids and is not far from the famous Uluwatu temple.
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a Balinese sea temple in Pecatu and dates back to the 11th century where it was built to protect Bali from evil spirits. Positioned on the breathtaking cliffs it is a once in a lifetime site to explore.
If you are an experienced surfer than Impossible beach is the beach for you, it gets its name from the fast and racy waves that are impossible to surf, unless you are an expert surfer however it is very picturesque. Don’t miss the Kecak dance at sunset, it is a form of Balinese dance and music drama that developed in the 1930s in Bali.
