Singaraja is a great place to visit in the dry season, between the months of April to October when the weather is less humid.
Singaraja is a major academic centre with two universities, and the number of students residing balloons the population to just over 100,000, making Singaraja Bali’s second largest city. Yudha Mandalatama Independence Monument, located on the waterfront at the mouth of the Buleleng river commemorates a local freedom fighter killed in the war against the Dutch and is an interesting piece of history to see. When you explore the surrounding areas you get a feel of what Singaraja might have been like in its days as an important colonial port.
You can’t miss the local cooking classes specialising in how to cook Balinese food. They even take you on a tour of their impressive spice garden.
