Twizel is definitely a place to visit if you’re looking for a place to be active and adventurous. You can climb or ride up mountains, hike, kayak and ski, just to name a few activities. If you’re a fishing buff, you can even try your hand at catching a salmon or two in the local waterholes!

One of Twizel’s main attractions is the OneRing tour. Twizel was the site for Gondor in the blockbuster hit movie, The Lord of the Rings. You can recreate a little bit of Lord of the Rings magic by taking a tour through here. Your tour guide will take you through the making of the film, and you might even be able to squeeze out a couple of secrets! You have to book for these tours, but if you’re a fan of anything to do with Lord of the Rings, you won’t want to miss out on this amazing opportunity.

If you’re up for something different, you can also take tours by air. You can fly across this gorgeous piece of nature in a biplane or a helicopter, and see the best of Aoraki National Park from the air. You will be able to see Mount Cook itself, as well as the Tasman Glacier, allowing you to see the amazing Southern Alps from a different perspective. If you want to take an up close and personal look, there are many different ski fields in this area, including a couple on the spectacular Mount Cook. Have fun in the snow while also enjoying the wonderful scenery New Zealand has to offer!

Twizel specialises in fly fishing, and you can learn from an extremely experienced instructor during your holiday here.
