For fans of the American icon Colonel Sanders, there is only one place you need to visit, the birthplace of the secret recipe and a food that has spread like wildfire all across the world – Kentucky Fried Chicken. You can visit the very first café where the infamous white suited granddaddy of comfort food first started to sell his moreish fried chicken. The museum attached to the café also includes some interesting artefacts owned by Colonel Sanders and you can see the kitchen where the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices was created that spawned a worldwide franchise.

History buffs should make a beeline for Camp Wildcat to see one of the finest war re-enactments in the state. Dressed in authentic military uniforms from the period these standard bearing brave volunteers to bring history back to life. Reliving the great battle that took place in Wildcat Mountain you can learn how the two forces once battled it out, expect enthusiastic gunfire, cannons and more –every kid, and big kids, perfect day out.

In true southern style all the petrol heads come out to visit the London Dragway. See some heavily modified cars shoot for the top speed as they tear down the straight track, expect anything from school buses roadsters to bikes – this is a perfect opportunity for the speed chasers to get their fix.

For family friendly fun there are an abundance of national parks that are well worth exploring around London. The Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park is just two miles south of London and offers a chance to explore 800 acres of greenery with a museum and pioneer settlement to discover on the way. A short drive to Corbin gives you the opportunity to witness the Cumberland Falls, a beautiful waterfall that is nicknamed the ‘Niagara of the South’ and span 125 feet and drop an impressive 68 feet into the Cumberland River below.
