Search cheapest vacation in Fortaleza
Fortaleza is the fifth largest city in Brazil and complete with the full vacation package: sunny beaches, busy nightlife and delicious cuisine. Known for its wild party scene and for also being the perfect place to swing lazily on a beachside hammock and enjoy a cold beer, a Fortaleza vacation is ideal for people who like things fast-paced, leisurely, or who like their activities to be a bit of both. The temperature is always around 73-81F and the sky is mostly sunny and very rarely rainy, giving the city constant tropical weather, making it the ideal beach getaway.
Centro is the oldest part of Fortaleza and the places that draw visitors are to the east of that part of the city, particularly Praia de Iracema. While Iracema is so engrained in Fortaleza history that it boasts five statues of the historical female Iracema, wife and moral support of 17th century war hero Martim Moreno, it is also one of Fortaleza’s nightlife bubbles. During the afternoons and nights, it becomes crowded and popular because of the many nightclubs and restaurants it contains. Don’t be surprised if the restaurants offer nice little bonuses like a free beer for choosing to eat at that establishment.
Fortaleza is a city of beaches and with every beach comes a distinct characteristic. For the bohemian experience, venture to Iracema; for a nice stroll among the locals and other tourists, meander down Meireles. If you feel like going on a boat trip or if you just want to watch the jangadas, Mucuripe is the beach to go to; and for some good old-fashioned sunbathing and surfing, make your way over to Praia du Futuro where you will also find nice rustic restaurants on the sand.
For some nice family fun, The Beach Park is always a homerun attraction. The largest aquatic park in South America, the Beach Park offers multiple dining options, a water park, and accommodations. Some of its attractions include the Water Circus and the 1989 Insano, which once held the Guinness Book of World Records record for “World’s Tallest Water Slide” at 135-feet tall.
Next to its vibrant nightlife and multiple beaches, Fortaleza is also a city of culture and history. In recent years there has been an effort to restore the colonial architecture throughout the area. An architectural landmark is the Theatro Jose de Alencar, which was built in 1912 and hosts performances almost every evening. There are also many cultural institutions around the city, which have been there since the 19th century, such as the Academia Cearense de Letras, which was the first institution of its kind in the country.
Despite its carnival season not being as famous or well known as others in the country, Fortaleza hosts numerous festivals and parades that celebrate the cultural, racial and religious diversity of its inhabitants. A good example of this is the Quadrilhas juinas, which occurs during the Festas Juninas, and which consists of hundreds of groups of folk dances that organize to make presentations.
