What to see and do in Huntington Beach ?

No matter where you are in Huntington Beach, the water isn’t too far away. The city has a great beachfront, stretching nearly 10 miles down the sand. Wide and clean, it’s a great place for bonfires, sunbathing, Frisbee, and all sorts of beach activities. Farther inland, malls like Fashion Island offer great shopping opportunities, and stunning golf courses see plenty of athletes practicing their swings. Downtown bustles with activity through day and night, with clubs hosting up-and-coming local DJ talent. There’s plenty to explore on your vacation to Huntington Beach, and plenty of spots on the beach to relax.

The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is a wetlands right by Pacific Coast Highway. At the Bolsa Chica Interpretive Center, you can see live animal exhibits, interactive kids programs, and learn about this precious natural resource. Tens of thousands of visitors come to the wetlands each year to hike, birdwatch, and enjoy the ocean breeze.

Huntington Beach’s main attraction, without a doubt, is the pier. Great surfing brings in some of California’s top talent, while the structure itself is an ideal spot for photography, people watching, and fishing. At then end of the pier, Ruby’s diner serves up classic hamburgers and shakes, the perfect complement to a sunny day. Wide sands allow for plenty of sunbathers to share space with beach games like Smashball and Frisbee. Kids will jump at the opportunity to fly kites on the ocean breeze.

Leading up to the beach is a busy downtown area, complete with stores, art galleries, and great restaurants. The International Surfing Museum sits just a stone’s throw from the sand, with memorials to the sport’s greats. The nation’s top surf companies all have stores on the street, as do popular clothing retailers.

Huntington Beach is home to many popular events throughout the year. Most famous is the US Open of Surfing, which takes place right by the pier each summer. While the event still focuses on surfing, it’s become a giant cultural and commercial happening, with skating, free concerts, vendors, and more. Winter sees the Cruise of Lights Boat Tour light up the harbor as ships of all sizes decked in Christmas lights float by in a parade that warms the hearts of children of all ages.
