If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Ventura has plenty of charming neighborhoods away from the city center that should be appealing. If you want to be close to the action, however, then check out downtown lodging, with restaurants, shops, and clubs within walking distance. The waterfront also offers plenty of opportunities to catch sunsets from a balcony or pier side. Stay in nearby Oxnard if you’re exploring the rest of the area, or head further north on the 101 to Carpinteria and Santa Barbara.

Ventura’s beautiful coastline, stunning sunsets, and leafy forests are inspiring for all visitors, but especially so for local artists. If you’re in town, be sure to check out the Olivas Adobe Historical Park to see them at work. Painters, dancers, sculptures, and more make their home in Ventura, making it a hub of creativity. Downtown Ventura’s numerous art galleries are a testament to this proud tradition.

If you’re visiting Ventura and love the outdoors, Channel Islands National Park is an absolute must. The Islands are just a ferry ride away, and house an incredible and unique ecosystem. Island foxes, which have been making a comeback thanks to conservation efforts, are some of the most adorable wild animals you’ll see anywhere, and they share the islands with bald eagles and other majestic creatures. A total of five islands make up the National Park, and each island has its own unique story to tell. They are also a great way to catch blue whales during migration season.

Ventura’s yearly celebration, the Ventura County Fair, is a must. Carnival rides, crazy foods, and amazing music are all mainstays. In the past, the fair has seen such acts as Jimi Hendrix and The Grateful Dead, an incredible tradition that lives on today.

Mission San Buenaventura is a must for any history buffs. Founded in 1782 by Junipero Serra, this Spanish mission was an important religious, economic, and cultural center for centuries. The Mission Bells have survived since the founding, as have various architectural attributes that make the mission a historic landmark in multiple registers.

Ventura is also just a short drive away from Los Angeles, making day or night trips to the City of Angels a popular choice. From museums to concerts, LA never sees a dull moment, and neither will you.
