Travel to Fiji
The Republic of Fiji is located about 2,000 nautical kilometers from the North Island of New Zealand. It is an archipelago that is made up of more than 300 individual islands, with about one-third of them permanently inhabited. Nearly 1 million people live in this island nation, but about 90% of the population is on just two islands: Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
One of the best attractions that Fiji offers is their wide ranging soft coral reefs. This makes it a diving paradise, with packages offered by many of the 5-star hotels and resorts to make travel as easy as possible.
There are several exploration opportunities that complement the popular resorts that are at the Coral Coast, Nadi, the Mamanuca Islands, and Denarau Island. The botanical gardens in Suva are particularly spectacular. Exploring the Sigatoka sand dunes or the Colo-I-Suva forest park are mainland options that will provide some variety to the scuba diving opportunities present at the outer islands.
Many of the islands are accessible using inter-island vessels. Two international airports serve Fiji, with public transportation used widely throughout the country, including on and off the ferry system.
Life on Fiji is very vibrant. Traditional culture is still an integral component of daily life on the islands, with infusions of Chinese and Indian influences found here and there. It is a unique identity that makes it stand out in terms of art and music.
If you are looking for the perfect resort holiday, Fiji has much to offer. Discover what is available today to turn your dream trip into a reality.
Best of Fiji
As tempting as it is to just relax on the beach and gaze at the crystal clear ocean; Fiji has so much more to offer than just stunning beaches. The Colo-i-Suva Forest Park is a lush rainforest teaming with wildlife and has rope swings across water and stone steps traversing streams. Take an adventure cruise and see plenty in a short space of time. You can also snorkel and investigate the colourful life beneath the waves.
Nestled in the heart of the South Pacific, Fiji is a tropical paradise waiting to be discovered. It’s a collection of 333 islands, although the majority of the population live on either Viti Levu or Vanua Levu. Their stunning beaches have been featured in Hollywood movies such as Cast Away and The Blue Lagoon, and the cloudless skies are hard to resist. Eco-tourism is a huge industry here and the locals are incredibly welcoming to visitors. The laid back island lifestyle ensures you’ll leave your stresses at the airport. Add in some stunning locations for diving and extensive coral reefs and it’s likely that you’ll never want your Fiji holiday to end.
Whether you decide to splash out on a 5-star resort or go with a more budget friendly hostel overlooking the beach, Fiji has a wealth of stunning options for every traveller. The two largest islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, attract the lion’s share of visitors but the smaller islands have their own treasures to offer. The Mamanuca islands are a chain of 20 islands and are one of the most established resort areas to stay on your Fiji holiday. World-class water sports and beaches are on offer here; the kinds of beaches that have attracted a host of Hollywood film scouts in the past. The Yasawa Islands are more popular with backpackers as they are less commercialised than their neighbours in Mamanuca. Though you won’t find a strip of shops here, the unspoilt natural beauty is stunning.
A holiday in Fiji can be anything you want it to be; whether you’re after some rest and relaxation on the beach or an adventure focused getaway, Fiji can provide what you’re looking for. Though the islands may be small in size, there is plenty to see and do and it can be hard to know where to start.
Fiji is known as the soft coral capital of the world and is home to a stunning network of coral reefs. The marine diversity this results in makes it a stunning destination for diving. There are courses available for the inexperienced diver and plenty of snorkelling to see the reef up close.
You can do this through your resort or choose to hire your own boat to investigate the islands. This option ensures you can see Fiji at your leisure and experience as many of the unique island cultures as possible. Whether it’s a day-trip or a fully serviced floating hotel, sailing is a popular way to experience the beauty of Fiji.
When you return to land, you can discover the tropical jungle teeming with indigenous wildlife. Take part in a jungle trek and get to know this exciting countryside with a group of fellow travellers. Taveuni is known as the Garden Island and has numerous nature reserves focused on preserving the stunning landscape. Eco-tourists are well catered to in Fiji, where the focus is on making sure the islands don’t suffer because of tourism. There are specialist hiking trails for all fitness levels, world-class bird watching and the opportunity to visit native villages deep in the jungle.
Backpackers looking to go off the beaten track will find many options in Fiji. There are numerous uninhabited islands where you can have complete privacy and explore the unspoilt area. The Lau Group of islands in the Far East offer an experience not normally given to tourists. There are no mainstream restaurants or hotels, and only two of the islands offer guesthouses. Here, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in Fijian culture and experience the legendary hospitality of the native people.
