Travel to Suriname
Sandwiched between Guyana and French Guiana along the Atlantic Coast of South America, Suriname is the smallest nation on the continent. The total population is smaller than most capital cities in South America. That means you have more opportunities to explore without the hustle and bustle of tourist traffic around you during your stay.
Suriname is a unique culture. Culturally, it is considered to be a Caribbean nation. It is the only territory outside of Europe where Dutch is the primary language of most people, including the official language of the government. With the indigenous and colonial cultures included as well, it is arguably the most diverse country in the world today.
Over 30% of the country has been declared to be a national reserve, so natural lands and outdoor adventures are a common component of life in Suriname. Whether you explore the extensive rainforests or you head to the beaches of Albina or Galibi to see the Leatherback turtles, you’ll find the guided tours and backcountry resorts to be a refreshing holiday experience.
Paramaribo is another space that is definitely worth a day’s investment for exploring. Several museums are available to tour, including an historic rum house, the Villa Zapakara, and the numismatic museum. Several religious buildings, gardens, and markets are worth finding during your stay as well. Be sure to linger along the Maagdenstraat, enjoy a Chinese breakfast, or visit one of the pool cafés to enjoy the nightlife.
Suriname provides a stunning sunset almost every night to cap off the adventures of each day. Make this country your next destination and you will be able to plan a wonderful holiday experience.
