The Museums of This City Are Fantastic!

If you’re visiting Umeå, then one of your first stops must be at some of the museums that this city has to offer. One of the best is the Bildmuseet, or the Picture Museum. Founded in 1981, it’s focus is on contemporary art and it has a focus on the visual arts that are becoming part of the contemporary movement. The design of the museum is unique and it is situated in a seven story building that has randomly spaced windows that overlook the Ure river.

If you want to get an intimate look at the history of skiing, then the Swedish Ski Museum in Umeå should be your next stop. You’ll get a glimpse of how skiing helped to develop the area since the 14^th century and how the Sami settlers used skiing as a means of herding their stock of reindeer. There’s also an outdoor museum that is excellent in season that shows a look at life in the region. You’ll also get to put your eyes on what is believed to be the world’s oldest ski, which is thought to be 5,200 years old.

The Restaurants of This Community Will Blow You Away!

One of the best restaurant you’ll ever have the pleasure of visiting during your journeys can be found in  Umeå. It’s the Rex Bar and Grill and it’s what you would get if you combined American influences with a French interior and traditional Swedish cuisine. We recommend taking the chance on a reindeer steak with an appetizer of local oysters. Be sure to order the cloudberries for dessert! This place is also the perfect weekend brunch stop where you can fill up on pancakes and bacon.

If you prefer something that is more like a local pub, then stop by Maxim for a quick bite to eat. It’s located right near the hostel where you’ll likely stay during your trip to Umeå and features a number of different combo deals. The pizza and beer package is definitely the way to go, but there’s a good menu of additional items if you’re just not in the mood for pizza that night.
