Travel to Honolulu

The islands of Hawaii invite you to enjoy a tropical adventure in the calm seas of the Pacific Ocean. It is the largest remote city of its size in the world and the name literally means “sheltered harbor.”

Heavenly Honolulu is the largest city and the capital of Hawaii. Situated on the island of Oahu, it is home to towering skyscrapers, beautiful resorts and plenty of stunning beaches, such as iconic Waikiki Beach. With loads of opportunities to just sit back and relax, as well as plenty of exhilarating activities, nightlife, shopping and entertainment to enjoy, there’s something for everyone on a Honolulu holiday. Don’t forget to pack in a bit of culture as well, with a trip to downtown Honolulu for its sites, museums and galleries just waiting for you to explore. The best news- the weather is hot, sunny and dry practically all year round so you can visit as often as you like.

For some well needed rest and relaxation- as well as tons of water sports and other activities- make sure you stay on Waikiki Beach. Here you’ll find plenty of restaurants as well as some incredible hotels. Looking for something a bit more land based on your Honolulu holidays? Stay near Ala Moana with one of the largest shopping malls in the world, home to over 260 shops! If you’re a keen surfer then Oahu’s North Shore is a definite must, as it is renowned for its huge waves and surfing competitions during the winters. If it’s a bit of history you want, head to downtown Honolulu where you’ll find the Arizona Memorial and the Pearl Harbour exhibition.

Visiting Honolulu provides you with a world-class resort experience. The beaches in the city are stunningly beautiful, with long stretches of white sands embracing emerald waters. Diamond Head Beach Park offers an historic crater to view and several trails to explore. At Kahala Beach, you’ll receive a 5-star resort experience. For swimming or surfing, Kahanamoku Beach is highly recommended.

Several natural museums can be found in Honolulu that highlight the beauty of the islands. The largest is the Bishop Museum, which features cultural artifacts from Polynesia, Pacific, and Hawaiiana cultures. Consider visiting the Walker Estate, the Foster Botanical Garden, and the Waikiki Aquarium for additional cultural opportunities.

Historic memorials that are treasured parts of United States’ culture are also found in Honolulu. The most important is the USS Arizona memorial, built over the sunken hull of the ship as a floating monument. It is only accessible by boat and remembers the lives lost in the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

To the east of the city is Koko Head District Park. You’ll find an extensive family recreation area here and several challenging trails to enjoy while having extensive views of the Pacific around every corner. Honolulu offers stunning vistas, strawberry sunsets, and a relaxing resort atmosphere that will let you find plenty of peace and quiet.

Honolulu has everything to offer both the contemporary and traditional traveller, plus those golden sands are never too far away!

About Hawaii

Hawaii’s biggest island is actually named Hawaii but to avoid confusion it is simply referred to as ‘the Big Island’. The Big Island promotes the diversity of the island state. Boasting snow-capped mountains, white sand beaches, big surf breaks, coral reefs for snorkelling, wide-open country and lush rainforest. On top of all of these different landscapes the Big Island is home to five volcanoes. One of these, Kilauea, being the most active volcano in the world. Find surf towns, native communities and beach resorts scattered through this amazing destination.

Find Hawaii Volcano National Park in the Kua and Puna areas and witness the majesty of these active volcanoes creating land. Visit Kahaluu Beach in Kona, where the rainforest meets the beach and a stream through volcanic rocks is fed by a majestic waterfall. Hawaii’s green sea turtles visit Kahaluu beach on a regular basis. Travel to the city of Hilo and find the tidal pools and inlets of its beaches, the safest swimming spot on the Big Island, perfect for young children. Relax in the beach resorts of Waikoloa and enjoy the relaxing lifestyle of Hawaii on the white sand beaches.

Hawaii enjoys a tropical climate, which means the temperature is warm year round. The catch is that there is not four distinct seasons; there is a wet season and a dry season. During the wet season the Big Island will most likely see a lot of rain from November to March and the air will be hot and sticky. The dry season, running from April to October sees the humidity drop a little and the rain pretty well non-existent. In recent years Hawaii has been experiencing drought conditions and even in the usual wet season rain levels have been dropping. So travel to the Big Island a month or so on either side of the dry season and you will likely still experience those desired fine and sunny days.

Find lush rainforests and white sand beaches in the Kona area of the Big Island. Visit Kahaluu Beach and meet the green sea turtles that often swim to shore here. Find a stream through volcanic rocks fed by a stunning waterfall where the rainforest meets the beach.

Enjoy the laid back lifestyle of The Big Island’s Hilo city. Hilo is second only to Honolulu but prides its self on being the down to earth, relaxed place that it certainly is. Find gorgeous rock pools and inlet on Hilo’s beaches. When the tide comes in these pools are the perfect place to take the children for a safe swim or simply laze in these warm inlets your self and enjoy the easy-going vibe of Hawaii’s Big Island.

If you are looking for a resort holiday then look no further than Waikoloa beach. This resort village boasts luxury accommodation, a golf course, tennis tournaments and of course perfect beaches and coral reefs. Enjoy the diversity of the Big Island. From active volcanoes to snow capped mountaintops, to wide open ranges and lush rainforest. This island paradise is the perfect destination for a tropical getaway.
