Travel to Mauritius

Mauritius can be found in the Indian Ocean, a few hundred kilometers to the east of Madagascar. It is part of the Mascarene Islands overseas department that is overseen by France and consists of two main islands and a series of outer islands and territories. Despite it being part of an island chain overseen by France, it is an independent republic.

There are numerous interesting and unique sights to see in Maruitius, making it a popular tropical destination for a holiday of any length. It has the perfect combination of warm ocean waters, beautiful beaches, and natural attractions. You can go from the multi-colored dunes of Black River Gorges National Park, the wide white sand beaches of Flic-en-Flac, to the 100-meter Chamarel Waterfall.

Port Louis offers visitors access to shopping, museums, theater, and water activities. Visit Grand-Baie for a vibrant nightlife and excellent snorkeling opportunities. Then explore the beautiful lagoons and reefs as you turn the island into your own personal playground.

You can also charter a boat and head out to sea. There you’ll find dolphin pods surrounding you, whale-watching opportunities, and the chance to enjoy life at a much slower pace. Mauritius is a destination that speaks of a welcoming home.

Even when tropical destinations are your regular holiday or traveling preference, Mauritius is one of the spots in our world that will always take your breath away. From the color of its surrounding waters to the glimpses of wildlife that come to you in all directions, there may be no better place to relax.

Best of Mauritius

Nestled in the Indian Ocean, just off the south-eastern coast of Africa, Mauritius is the ultimate tropical paradise. It’s the place of dreams, where the ocean seems just that little bit bluer, the trees greener and the air fresher. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or an adventurous holiday, Mauritius is the perfect holiday destination for those looking to escape the daily grind. The island nation’s capital, Port Louis, is the country’ largest city and is also Africa’s wealthiest city. Mauritius has a population of over 1.2 million people, with the three main spoken languages being Mauritian Creole, French and English.

Wherever you chose to stay, your Mauritius holiday is bound to be an unforgettable experience. With hotels and resorts scattered across the coastline you’ll have pristine white sandy beaches right at your doorstep. Located in the northwest, Port Louis is a favourite base for many visitors to Mauritius, typically owing to its mix of modern and colonial style buildings, maze of marketplaces and lively atmosphere. Being a relatively small island country, transport from one region to another does not prove at all difficult in Mauritius, so be assured that wherever your Mauritius accommodation is, you will be able to get around for day trips without hassle.

If you’re like most other travellers, then the first thing that you’ll want to do the moment your plane touches down in Mauritius is hit the beach. To avoid the crowds that very well might be en-route to the same beach you were planning on visiting, try one of Mauritius’ lesser know beaches. They’ll be just as beautiful, yet immaculately clean and untouched. Tamarin Beach on the west coast of the island is a favourite amongst locals and is worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Alongside its never-ending string of beaches, Mauritius is also well known for its wildlife and conservation efforts. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation runs tours of Île aux Aigrettes which take around 2 hours. Île aux Aigrettes is an island off the mainland of Mauritius and makes for the perfect day trip destination. A guided your through the island’s trails will take you through lush rainforests and bring you face to face with exotic wildlife, flora and fauna. You will have the chance to walk through the Ebony forest, once the home of the Dodo bird which was native to Mauritius before its extinction. Pink pigeons, giant tortoises and a multitude of other wild animals will have you falling in love with Mauritius even more than you already were.

If you feel like mixing it up and doing something indoors for a change, then don’t fear, Mauritius can cater to those needs as well. Eureka is porthole into Mauritius’ colonial history. It stands as the best kept Creole mansion in all of Mauritius, with stunning architecture and beautifully historic furniture. Built in the 1830s, the Eureka mansion is also a short walk from Ravin waterfall.

With trekking trips, endless swimming spots, top diving spots and rainforests galore to explore, Mauritius is the kind of place where you can unwind, unplug and enjoy.
