When thinking of an island nation associated with Africa, it is usually Madagascar that comes to mind. With a visit to Comoros, however, that may change. This island archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Tanzania, and consist of three major islands.

Comoros is perfect for the adventurer. Take a 6-hour trek up to the Karthala volcanic crater, for example, to receive a stunning view of the archipelago. There are sulfur springs that can be discovered as well and it can become a multi-day backpacking adventure too.

Some just choose to rent a vehicle and drive on the national roads, taking in the waterfalls, beaches, and old villages that are within easy reach.
