Travel to Ethopia
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethopia takes up a majority of the land space found along the Horn of Africa. It is the most populous landlocked country in the world and the second largest, in terms of population, in Africa. The Ge’ez script is one of the oldest alphabets still used in the world today and they even have a separate calendar which co-exists with the standard Gregorian calendar, though it is 7 years and 3 months behind.
A visit to Ethiopia must include the Sof Omar Caves. The longest cave in Africa, measure to 15km, is situated just to the east of Robe. According to traditions, it was named after a holy man who lived in the area. Several natural wonders, including a chamber of columns, can be seen from within the cave.
Never colonized, Ethiopia is one of the oldest nations in the world. As such, numerous natural wonders have been developed that are worth seeing as well. There are nearly a dozen national parks to explore, spa resorts to enjoy, or the Rift Valley Lakes to see. When visiting the capital, Addis Ababa, you’ll find that this series of 7 lakes is the perfect spot to enjoy some water sports or to do some birdwatching. Try doing some hiking in the Simen or Bale Mountains during your stay as well.
Although there are certain political considerations that must be evaluated, a trip to Ethiopia is relatively safe – especially when working with an organized tour. If you’ve always wanted to explore this region of Africa, you may find this to be an opportunity that cannot be ignored.
