Travel to Rwanda
Rwanda has come a long way since the civil war and genocide of 1994 that devastated the country. Rwanda is called “the land of a thousand hills” and the country offers some spectacular nature and animal life. Rwanda is a landlocked country and it boarders four other countries, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and DR Congo.
Today Rwanda is considered to be a relatively stable country where it generally is safe and easy to travel around. Rwanda may be one of the smallest nations on the African continent, but it is filled with many large opportunities to go exploring. It is found within the Great Lakes region of Africa, with plenty of high elevations to explore, along with a savannah to the east that is perfect for viewing wildlife.
Music and dance have long been a way of life in Rwanda. Drums play an important role in the culture, inspiring traditional dances like the umushagiriro and the intore. A stay in this country is an invitation to go see the outdoors. At Volcanoes National Park, you’ll find a beautiful preserve with trekking opportunities that take you to native mountain gorillas. In the Virunga Mountains, you can plan a safari to see the wildlife of Africa. There are two additional national parks to explore as well.
Ancient rainforests, combined with touching memorials, add up to a wonderful experience. During your stay, be sure to try the brochettes, which are kebabs of goat, sometimes with fried plantains. Local buffets are common, and there is an international presence to the cuisine as well.
Then relax along the shores of Lake Kivu. Situated near the border, you’ll find plenty of inexpensive shops, nightlife opportunities, and local breweries offering you a chance to try something new. Be sure to try the ubuki, which is similar to mead, while exploring the various shops and bars.
Rwanda is a warm and welcoming country in the heart of Africa. Come see its beauty and you will find something amazing.
