Travel to Botswana
The Republic of Botswana can be found in southern Africa, landlocked just about the nation of South Africa. Much of the country is comprised of the Kalahari Desert, but that hasn’t stopped this country from becoming one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
Botswana can justifiably claim to host some of the finest game sanctuaries in Africa. The worlds’ largest exporter of diamonds by value, the country is not under pressure to get in more tourists. And the government has adopted a deliberate policy of keeping visitor numbers low. The hidden hand of the market has responded by adjusting the price to reflect this reality. Botswana has therefore emerged as an exclusive safari destination.
Safaris happen all year long here, with Chobe National Park, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and Moremi National Park all providing large animal herds to view. Try the Khama Rhino Sanctuary as well, between Maun and Gaborone, where you can go out with rangers to track the elusive rhinoceros.
About 20% of Botswana is protected park land in some way. It’s a chance for you to see lions, cheetahs, antelope, elephants, and even wild dogs in a natural environment. Hundreds of species of birds can be found throughout the various parks as well. One of the best ways to experience Botswana is to book a private lodge and hire your own driver so you can come and go on your best schedule.
Eco-tourism is part of the experience as well. Visit local villages, stay the night, and immerse yourself in the traditions and cultures that make Botswana such a colorful place to be. Bring home woven arts and crafts, but don’t forget to visit the Tsodilo Hills to see its collection of rock art.
Botswana provides easy access to most travelers and stunning natural vista to see throughout the country. Come here and you’ll see some of the best of what Africa offers.
