Travel to Lesotho
Lesotho is one of the smallest nations in the world and is completely surrounded by South Africa. It is also unique because it is the only independent state in the world that is above 1,000m in elevation. The lowest point in the country is at 1,400 meters, which is the highest low point for a country in the world as well.
Because of the higher altitude, Lesotho is comfortable all year long. Thunderstorms come often during the summer months. It is a country that is dependent upon agricultural work and mining with a strong tourism sector built to support the many adventures that can be found here.
While visiting Lesotho, be sure to take a lingering tour of the Kome Caves. These caves were actually homes that were built by the Basotho people, their way of trying to escape the tribes of cannibals that once roamed the region. They are about an hour’s drive from Maseru.
The Semonkong Falls are quite impressive. The total drop is over 200 meters. You can swim in the pond that forms below the falls if you wish, though in winter, the falls do ice over and the waters below freeze.
You can also trace dinosaur footprints during your stay, with well-preserved examples located around Morija and Moyeni. Consider the rock art around Liphofung Cave as well to get to know the culture better.
With pony-trekking, hiking, and skiing opportunities abundant, Lesotho is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise. Make your way here and you will be able to plan an amazing holiday experience.
