Travel to Mali

The Republic of Mali is a landlocked nation in West Africa. With eight borders, some of them deep within the Sahara Desert, it is a land that offers challenge, excitement, and adventure. It is also a very poor nation, where around half of the population lives below the international poverty line.

There are some stunning locations to visit during a stay in Mali. Although the shrines of Muhave and Timbuktu have been mostly destroyed because of recent political conflict, there are still some natural wonders to behold. The Adrar des Ifoghas, for example, is a large plateau that acts as a habitat for many animals in the region. You’ll find everything from hyenas to antelopes to lizards. There is a variety of rock paintings to be found and it is one of the few places in the world with authentic petrified wood.

The Great Mosque of Djenne is another impressive sight that can be found in Mali. Built in 1906, it has five stories and three towers, all made completely from mud. Non-Muslims are not permitted inside, but even the outside is notably impressive. It has been a designated world heritage site since 1988. The inside receives a new coat of plaster every year.

Vaccinations are not mandatory, but still a good idea when visiting Mali. Evaluate the political climate, think about working with a local tour operator or guide, and monitor the situation at all times for the best possible experience. Mali is a land of wonders, making it an intriguing destination for the adventurer.
