Travel to Anzio
You’ll find Anzio just a quick day trip south of Rome and its seaside setting in absolutely stunning. From here, you’ll be able to catch a ferry or hydroplane to one of the Pontine Islands if you wish. You can also explore the various sites of historical significance with the landing of Allied troops here during the second global warm.
As part of Antium, Anzio is one of the oldest areas of the Roman Empire. As early as 493 BC, the Romans are said to have defeated two armies from here, capturing several villages in the process. Because it was close enough to Rome to be of influence, but far enough away to avoid the political tumult that seemed ever-present, many leading Romans built villas around Anzio. Many of the remains of these villas can be seen along the shore. Several ancient works of art have been found in these villas over the years, including the “Borghese Gladiator,” which is currently on display at the Louvre.
You’ll find several beaches and resorts along the shore in and around Anzio for your peaceful relaxation. Several famous fish restaurants can be found in the Port of Anzio to enjoy. If you head north of the city, there is a World Wildlife Fund park with Sulphur springs and a Medieval tower. South of the city are homes done in the local Art Nouveau style to enjoy. Anzio makes history come alive in many unique ways. You can see Rome and the Pontine Islands from here quite easily or you can stay to enjoy all that the city offers. One thing is for certain: Anzio provides an amazing experience.
