Travel to Ao Nang Beach
Ao Nang is one of Thailand’s most popular beach destinations. Located in Krabi province, on the western coast of the country, and its beautiful beaches are lapped by the warm Andaman Sea. Ao Phra Nang is the full name of the resort area, and means Princess Bay. It’s an ideal holiday location in itself or a great place to explore popular nearby islands and resorts. The nearest airport to Ao Nang is Krabi Airport, which is about 27km away. Ao Nang may be a small town but it’s got a big nightlife, with dozens of well-visited bars and restaurants to party the night away.
Basic and luxury accommodation, along with everything in between, is found in the beach areas, looking out to the Andaman Sea, although some resorts may be set back around 500 metres or more from the beaches. More accommodation is found further back from the beach areas and surrounded by forests, offering guests a secluded, quieter time. Wherever visitors choose to stay, they won’t be far from the prime beach areas that are a perennial tourist attraction, or some of the sights further inland. Much of the Ao Nang accommodation, in particular the more mid-priced and luxury hotels and homestays, features modern facilities such as Wi-Fi.

What to see and do in Ao Nang Beach ?
Ao Nang has the best of Thai beach holidays without the over-developed holiday destinations. This place is unspoiled, with little of the mass developments and a lot of charm. It’s quite simply paradise perfected, and a dream holiday that will last in your memory a lifetime.
There are a number of excellent beaches in Ao Nang, as well as interesting ones more far off. These include Fossil Shell Beach, about 7km away, where you can see the fossilised remans of simple creatures that lived many millions of years ago embedded in rock. The popular Rai Leh Beach area is reached by boat, and it has some caves that can be explored.
Scuba diving is naturally popular in this part of Thailand, given the warm, crystal-clear waters and the abundance of marine life. Visitors can take lessons if they don’t know how to scuba dive, and there are dive centres all over the area. Scuba diving day trips go out near the islands off Ao Nang, and include such well-known sites as Phi Phi National Park and Shark Point Marine Sanctuary.
Back on land, and a short drive will take you to Tiger Cave Temple, which is just outside Krabi town. It’s quite a climb, up hundreds of steps, to this attractive temple that’s one of the region’s holiest Buddhist sites, but it’s well worth the effort to see the spectacular statues and expansive views of the area.
Other popular activities for visitors to Ao Nang include trekking, on foot as well as on elephant, and climbing. There are snake shows where the slithering creatures put on astounding performances.
One activity that visitors can take back home with them, and impress their family and friends, is cooking – there’s a cookery school in Ao Nang where guests are taught how to cook mouth-watering Thai dishes.
A great way to relax and let all your troubles waft away is not only to have a famous Thai massage, but to immerse yourself in the hot springs and emerald pool, both almost beside each other and about an hour outside Ao Nang.
