Located along the southern Mediterranean Coast of Israel, Ashkelon is just 13km north of the Gaza Strip. It is an ancient seaport, originally settled during the Neolithic Age, and many of its historical remnants can be found in the various archaeological sites and museums in and around the city.
One of the most unique stops in the city is the old city gate that has been restored. Built by the Canaanites, the structure is more than 3,500 years old. Be sure to visit Ashkelon National Park, which is also on the southern coast. You can still see the ancient city walls and the old Earth ramparts that were built by the Canaanites. Ruins from the Romans, Crusaders, and Byzantines are within the park as well.
On a sunny afternoon, you’ll be able to enjoy a nice stroll along the marina’s breakwater. The path is fully paved, so all you need to do is enjoy the salty air and the warm sunshine. A beautiful day also deserves a stroll through Park Afridar. Then be sure to catch a sunset along the beach at a tempting restaurant.
