Travel to China

As the most populous nation on our planet, China offers opportunities that are too numerous to list individually. One of the oldest continuing civilisations calls China its home. The Chinese people have occupied this lush and abundant land since 2000 BCE and left behind antiquities throughout the ages that can still be seen today. This historic country is one of the frontrunners in the development of modern culture and the blend of modern and ancient life is something every traveller should experience.

The super modern skylines of Beijing and Shanghai are a veil upon the ancient alleys and monuments that lie within. Visit China and experience the best of modern and ancient civilisation. It is a place where you can get a glimpse into our future, but also delve into the past at your leisure. You can enjoy modern cities, relaxed rural environments, and unique cultural or historical sites.

China is also the world’s oldest continuous civilization. It is a vast nation that feels like you’ve rolled up several countries into one border. This means you’ve got an opportunity to follow along the old Silk Road, take a hike up to a mountain base camp, or enjoy what the modern cities have to offer.

No visit to China is complete unless time has been spent at the Great Wall. You can visit on your own or with an organized tour. Some sections of the wall have been completely restored, while others are still in their natural state. Gardens, temples, and other landscapes are offered in great abundance as well.

If you’re looking for a convenient way to enjoy China, consider joining a tour group or creating a planned itinerary before you go. Trips during the holidays in China can be very busy.

The diversity that you’ll find in China is unique to the world today. Whether you’re an adventurer, a cyclist, a backpacker, or you just love a good museum, there is enough to find here that you could fill a lifetime of trips and never be able to see it all. Let your journey take you to China and it is an adventure that you’ll never want to finish.

Visit Shanghai and shop till you drop in China’s fashion capital. The more modernised of China’s big cities, Shanghai is the perfect place to get hip with the some of the world’s finest fashion. East meets west in Shanghai and hidden amongst the brand new fashion houses and colossal department stores you will find some fantastic traditional Chinese cuisine.

For a more traditional Chinese experience head to capital city Beijing. A little more thinly veiled by China’s sci-fi skylines, Beijing is laced with ancient alleyways like rich honeycomb beneath a hive of glimmering skyscrapers. Find ancient temples and monuments scattered through this living museum.

Best of China

Ideal seasons to visit China are autumn and spring, as the winter gets extremely cold and summer is their hot and rainy season. Springtime lasts roughly from March to May and Autumn falls from September to November. If you don’t mind the cold it would be worth travelling to china in the off-season to participate in the charming Harbin Winter Ice Lantern festival. The festival begins in early January and lasts for over a month.

Beijing is China’s capital and is filled with ancient monuments and temples the largest and best-preserved being the Forbidden City. This mystic complex of ancient buildings was off limits for 500 years when it was home to two reclusive dynasties of imperial rule. Surrounded by a 52 metre wide moat the Forbidden city could take an entire day to explore and is very reasonably priced compared to some other historic palaces in the area.

After a long day of exploring in Beijing you will want to find one of the many local restaurants or food markets and grab a bite. Try the Donghuamen Night Market for some tradition street style cuisine. Delicacies from all regions of China can be found here, but beware you will find the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to food markets. Some may be sceptical of the fried seahorse or scorpion kebabs, but that’s all part of the wonder of an exotic street market isn’t it? China also boasts absolutely amazing roasted duck dishes and you won’t be hard pressed to find one of the countless roast duck specific restaurants scattered through the cities.

China, being one of the oldest continuing civilisations, places importance on keeping up with contemporary culture and the city of Shanghai is a testament to this. The fashion capital of China boasts a science fiction like skyline that contains some of the best shopping in the world. East truly meets West in Shanghai and the shopping savvy traveller will find a plethora of stores from Ancient antique dealers to souvenir shops and inexpensive department stores to high end fashion boutiques.
