Holidays in the Indian Ocean
If you like your holidays to be all about sun, sea and sand, you will absolutely love an Indian Ocean getaway. There are so many wonderful beachside locations to choose from, including the Maldives, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. At each of these destinations, the emphasis is on slowing down, settling back and recharging the batteries of life.

You have a superb choice of destinations when you take an Indian Ocean holiday, so it’s best to think about which type of trip you prefer. If you want an idyllic and beautiful seaside location, you can’t go wrong with the Maldives, for example, which is home to some of the finest beaches on the planet.
Alternatively, if you like to discover more about local history during your stay, it might be a good idea to choose Sri Lanka instead. As well as stunning beaches, you’ll also find plenty of fascinating landmarks which celebrate the history of this stunning island.
As you might expect from such a large region, scuba diving is a must-try on an Indian Ocean holiday. The waters are crystal clear, so diving is always a pleasure. At the delightfully-named village of Flic-en-Flac on the west coast of Mauritius, you can dive to your heart’s content and take in some stunning views of the coral reefs.
In a region which boasts many of the best beaches in the world, it’s difficult to single out just one of them. The beach at Anse à la Mouche on Mahé in the Seychelles, however, is truly spectacular. If you’ve ever dreamed of perfect idyllic beaches in the past, the chances are they looked like this. Stunning white sand, beautifully clear waters and a gentle slope into the sea all combine to make this a sensational destination; and a place that you simply have to visit.
If you are lucky enough to be staying in the Sri Lankan city of Galle, you should take a tuk-tuk ride to the stunning Rumasalla Mountain. Here you can enjoy some of the most impressive coastal views that you will ever see. Indian Ocean holidays always provide plenty of photo opportunities, but few can match the spectacle of the panoramic vistas that can be enjoyed here, especially as the daytime slowly turns into evening.
You will have plenty of solitude on a holiday to the Indian Ocean, but if you’re in the mood for a busier time a trip to Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, is a good option to take. A stroll along the beautiful Caudan Waterfront region is a must, thanks to the sensational views, the delightful restaurants and the live entertainment that’s on offer. If you’re in Mauritius, it’s a good idea to set aside a day for a visit to the city.
There are a number of shopping malls and strips in various Indian Ocean destinations, but sometimes it can be more fun to stroll through the streets on market day. You’ll find several in the Seychelles, especially on the island of Mahé, so if you like retail therapy you’ll love these.
