Travel to Bay of Plenty

Read about and get inspiration for a trip to the city, check for the cheapest flights and hotels in Bay of Plenty

Hidden in the south western Pacific Ocean, New Zealand is an island paradise just waiting to be discovered. It plays host to some of the most wonderful and unique sights in the world, and you would be mad to pass up an opportunity to explore this lovely country. New Zealand is split into two islands, aptly named North and South. The Bay of Plenty, also known as Te Moana-aToi, is located on the northern coast of the North Island. This location is special because it was the first part of this country to be settled by the Maoris. Featuring beautiful windswept views of the coast, they could not have chosen a better place to settle down.

The Bay of Plenty region has many different types of accommodation on offer, and will suit the needs of any who visit. There are motor lodges and inns available, for those of you who intend to travel by car or caravan through this beautiful country. There are also the more classical choices of motels and hotels, which range from ratings of 3-stars to 5-stars. If you’re looking for something just a little bit more special, you can book a retreat or holiday home in which to relax and spread out in luxury.

Best of Bay of Plenty

What to see and do in Bay of Plenty ?

The Bay of Plenty area is quite large, and there is much to explore and see here. You must visit one of the many amazing beaches here, with a seemingly never ending view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. You can also visit Mount Maunganui, a resort town at the base of Mauao, a volcanic cone!

Tauranga is the main centre and most populated of all the cities in the Bay of Plenty region. It is extremely close to Maunganui Beach, where you can stretch out and relax in relative privacy. Play in the bleach white sand and play in the crystal clear waves with the family or just that special someone.

You can also jet-ski, surf, and much more out here – just remember to be safe and heed warnings when they are released. Tauranga is also home to Adrenalin Forest, where you can challenge yourself to a number of different, yet extremely fun activities. These include flying foxes, high and low ropes and bridge courses, and they increase in difficulty as you progress.

Mount Maunganui, a little further away than Tauranga, is a resort town named after the mountain of the same title. This mountain and resulting town, like many of New Zealand’s towns, have a very close link to the Maoris and their history, and you can learn more about this on one of the tours on offer.

You can visit any of the nearby beaches for some holiday fun, or if you’re after something a little more adventurous, you can even attempt to climb the mountain itself! The Mount Maunganui summit track is a must-visit for all who come to the Bay of Plenty, and is suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness. You will be duly rewarded with stunning views of the town and surrounding areas, including the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

You can also visit Te Puke, New Zealand’s self-professed capital of kiwifruit. This town includes everything from hot pools and health spas to scenic horse treks. You can, of course, buy some of this famous kiwifruit from the markets, and there is even a health shop dedicated to the sale of kiwifruit related products here.

The Bay of Plenty has much more to offer than just this, and it’s up to you to figure out all its secrets.
