Travel to Brtonigla

Brtonigla was mentioned for the first time in 1234, with the ancient name Ortoneglo or Hortus Niger, i.e. black ground garden.

In the 11th century Venetians settled in the area, and in the 16th and 17th century Dalmatian and Balkan peasant families settled there too. Vertenejo was part of the Serenissima Republic of Venice and then of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Exceptionally valuable archaeological findings confirm that people lived in the location of Brtonigla back in prehistoric times, and the entire territory offers the possibility of visiting numerous ruins from the period of Romans, who built settlements and villas here.

The numerous acres of vineyards and olive groves are surrounded by pathways that lead towards meadows and woods, deep into the centre of vibrating nature that lives intact, far away from the modern civilisation. It is also a place where you can find superior wines and olive oils.
