What to see and do in Caloundra ?
Caloundra has some of the most beautiful beaches and coastline in Queensland. A great way to explore them is to take an early morning stroll along the Caloundra Coastal Walk; from Golden Beach in the south to Currimundi in the north. Make sure you stop at the top of Moffat Headland for a spectacular view. Kings Beach is one of Caloundra’s most popular and it is not hard to see why. With a saltwater pool, water playground and, of course, a beautiful white sandy beach it is the perfect place to spend a day. Keen surfers should check out the breaks near Dicky Beach and Moffat Beach.
Bulcock Street is the main street of Caloundra and features a mix of boutiques and laid back cafés. Well worth a visit is Milano’s Gelateria, which well-seasoned travellers have described as offering some of the best gelato in the world. A great time to visit Bulcock Street is Sunday morning when the street is closed off to traffic and the locals show off their wares at the Bulcock Street Markets.
From laid back fish and chips along Bulcock Beach, to the upmarket Alfies Moo Char & Bar owned by rugby league legend Alfie Langer, there are plenty great places to eat in Caloundra. Some local favourites include the pancakes at Café by the Beach and the family friendly Domenicos.
Even though Caloundra is a great place to visit year round, music lovers should try and time their visit around the annual Caloundra music festival, which features some of Australia’s best known artists. In recent years the line-up has included The Living End, Boy & Bear and Jimmy Barnes.
The world famous Australia Zoo is a short drive out of Caloundra and is a must see. Keep driving past Australia Zoo and you will find yourself in the spectacular Sunshine Coast hinterland. Explore the picture-perfect towns of Maleny and Montville or, if you are feeling adventurous, climb one of the Glasshouse Mountains.
