In the Town of Trees, you’re sure to find the perfect calming outdoor experience to settle even the most frazzled of nerves. With beautiful scenic walks, great food, and even tours of scenes that inspired The Lord of the Rings, Cambridge is a fantastic modest holiday.

Holidays to Cambridge offer a fantastic range of outdoor sights, as well as things to do. Lake Karapiro is perfect for a family picnic, or a quiet afternoon by the water. The Maungakawa Scenic Reserve offers one of the best views of Cambridge and its surrounding area. The Pirongia Forest park also comprises some challenging walks and is well known for its towering landmarks, the volcanic cones of Mount Pirongia.

Of course, Cambridge is also famous for its natural beauty, captured and immortalised in the Hollywood block-buster, The Lord of the Rings. The filming location of the series and Sir Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit is just a short 20 minute drive from the town centre. There you can enjoy a two-hour guided tour, learning the story of how the Alexander family farm was turned into Tolkien’s Shire. The Shire of Tolkien’s Middle-earth comes to life as your guide shows you around the property. You’ll see hobbit holes, The Green Dragon Inn and Mill as seen on the big screen. Because it remains a working farm, children can also pet animals during their visit.

With everything from classic Kiwi cuisine to foods from across far waters, dinning out in Cambridge has something to offer everyone. With about half a dozen venders competing for the reputation of the ‘best fish and chips in town’ you’re sure to find something to fill an empty stomach.
