Travel to San Marino
The Republic of San Marino is one of the most serene destinations that you can visit in the world today. It’s a microstate that is completely surrounded by Italy, with just over 61 square kilometers to explore. It is also believed that San Marino has the oldest written governing documents that are still in effect.
What makes this microstate such a unique place to visit? For starters, it is the only country in the world that has more vehicles than people. Then you have the castles, public squares, and ancient religious sites that are always talked about when visiting almost any European destination. Yet there is a distinct personality about San Marino that sets it apart, with the historic city center a pedestrian zone that features food venues and gift shops.
You’ll find small medieval alleyways throughout this microstate, scenic terraces that will make you want to linger, and of course there are the 3 Towers of San Marino to visit. There are also several museums that are worth a tour, including the Museo San Francesco.
If you love a good clifftop castle, then San Marino is going to be a land of enchantment for you. There are gorgeous red rooftop views that you can find at virtually any high point. And, as the last survivor of the old city-state network that once dominated Italy, there is a certain level of pride and mystique that you’ll find along each street as well.
San Marino may have a reputation for providing the perfect holiday, but it offers much more. Come to explore and you’ll see why there is so much to do in such a small microstate.
