Invercargill is bursting to the brim with activities to do and sights to see. This wonderful city has everything you can imagine, from antique shopping to horse riding, museums and art galleries to surfing and swimming. Invercargill is full of amazing natural sights, as well as a hub of culture and history. You can take day trips to Bluff Hill and look over the beautiful bushland, or for something a little bit different, go and visit the Waipapa Point Lighthouse. This lighthouse is located in what can sometimes be an extremely windy area, so make sure you take a sturdy jacket. It does overlook a stunning beach that is inhabited by natural wildlife and is also a perfect spot for short walks along the coast.

There are also many different parks you can frequent, and these are filled with unique and native flora. Anderson Park includes an old homestead, and the Otepuni Gardens are located near the central business district, so it is a nice place to go and relax after a stressful day, to name just a few. If you like to explore the wild side a little, you can take bush walks through some of the reserves Invercargill has to its name. Get up close and personal with some of New Zealand’s natural vegetation while also learning a bit about their historical and cultural significance. You can also visit the Animal Reserve, where children can have hands-on access to the animals, playing and feeding to their hearts content.

Invercargill is home to many museums and art galleries, showcasing both home-grown art and some sourced internationally. All of these places have regular exhibitions, depending on their current season, so you should definitely pop in to get a feel for New Zealand and Invercargill culture.
