The outdoors in Kerikeri are an absolute must-see for the area. Not only is the area truly stunning, but a holiday in Kerikeri also offers a range of ways to really get in touch with nature. Visit the Rainbow Falls, known to the locals as Waianiwaniwa, which means waters of the rainbow. You can drive almost right up to the falls, and it is a great place to swim and relax with the family. Perhaps you’d even like to pack a picnic to enjoy as you bask in the sunshine and listen to the glorious cascading of the falls. Kerikeri offers a number of other great places to get into the water as well, the nearby Maturi Bay and Te Ngaere offering places such as the Fairy Pools. Charlie’s Rock is also a great place for swimming with its beautiful waterfalls tinkling in the distance.

The region also offers a range of guided walking tours, during which you can not only view the beautiful natural scenery, but learn all about the local history and culture at the same time. There are a range of historical sites to visit in Kerikeri as well, such as the Stone Store and Rewa’s Village.

The Stone Store, a former storehouse, is the oldest stone building in New Zealand. Rewa’s Village was constructed opposite the Stone Store in 1969 as a community effort to faithfully recreate a kainga (unfortified village) which existed when Europeans arrived in New Zealand.

The cultural scene in Kerikeri is also alive and well, and sure to enrich your holiday in this lovely town.
