Travel to Kerobokan

Kerobokan holidays offer a traditional Balinese town north of the popular Kuta tourism district. In this Indonesian tourism heartland, there’s a mix of retail business, dining, villas and hotels. The area is surrounded by other tourism districts, including upmarket Seminyak and Oberoi. That makes a stay in Kerobokan central to all of the best amenities and facilities the island has to offer, and it’s only a short distance from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The year-round constant high tropical temperatures mean anytime is a good time to visit, although there are heavy deluges during monsoon season around the end of the year.

As Kerobokan is in the heart of Bali’s booming tourism region in the south of the island, there is a lot of accommodation, with newcomers popping up all the time. Villas abound all around Kerobokan, especially in the Petitenget area, which is really a long strip of road lined with all manner of luxury accommodation. Umalas is another area of Kerobokan that has many villas and some hotels. It’s slightly further north into the countryside, and is more serene and surrounded by ricefields. Spas are a common addition to accommodation in Kerobokan, providing wellness and relaxation services to make your stay even more enjoyable.

Best of Kerobokan

What to see and do in Kerobokan ?

Kerobokan is both semi-urban and semi-rural, with a slather of delicious beach thrown in to complete this desirable picture. No matter where you stay you’ll come into contact with all of these scenes, as the area is relatively small. Accommodation in the town itself offers the convenience of shops and restaurants while out in the countryside its calm tranquillity all around.

Parts of Kerobokan are right on the beach, meaning you don’t have to go far to spend a day in the sun on a glorious stretch of sand. Sun lounges with large umbrellas for shade can be hired for very little for the entire day. Go for a swim or a surf – and if you don’t know how to surf, the many locals renting surfboards on the beach will only be too happy to show you how, for a small fee.

Kerobokan is great for shopping, whether it’s fashion or art or antiques. There are many antique shops along the winding narrow streets of the area – go and explore. You can pick up a large dining table made from the finest of wood for a fraction of what you’d pay back home, and the helpful salespeople will arrange to have it shipped back for you. There are bargains waiting around every corner; just don’t be shy and make sure to haggle.

A great way to spend a few hours locally, when you’re not exploring the rest of the island from your Kerobokan base, is to go on a ricefield tour. Go on a bike tour or just yourself and walk along the raised paths that crisscross the ricefields – the farmers won’t mind; that’s the thing about Bali: no one does – and experience this most thrilling yet basic aspect of rural Balinese life that has kept the island and its people going for centuries.

There are lots of spas in Kerobokan, whether part of hotels and villas or standalone premises. Treat yourself to a Balinese massage and find out what blissed-out really means. You can also go horse riding, as there’s a number of stables in the area. A sunrise or sunset gallop along the beach is a magnificent thing.

At night, dine below the tropical stars at one of the many top-class restaurants in the area, while enjoying the local wines and readying yourself for a night of revelry at some of the most stylish nightspots anywhere.
