What to see and do in La Paz ?

Because of the draw of the sea, most hotels in La Paz have easy access to water. The city itself offers visitors a plethora of accommodation options. The three mile long Malecon, a sunny promenade, runs along the coast and is quickly becoming a hub for shops, restaurants, and hotels where visitors can enjoy a great location for activities as well as views of the sea. If you are looking for serious beach time, head a few miles north or south of central La Paz to one of the quiet beach resorts where you can soak up the tropical sunshine, swim in the tranquil Sea of Cortes, and enjoy the calm nights.

A La Paz vacation is one that is centered on the marvelous Sea of Cortez that has supported the city throughout its history. Take advantage of the sea and explore underwater either by renting snorkels or diving. Enjoy shallow and clear water with several coves and inlets that shelter a variety of sea life. Hop in a sea kayak or paddleboard, or cruise around on a boat and enjoy an afternoon on the water.

Take a boat out to the protected Isla Espiritu Santo for 36 square miles of an island that shelters several rare species both in the water and out. Don’t miss viewing the barking sea lions at Los Islotes, or enjoying a stroll on the white sand beaches and marveling at the wildlife.

Beyond the allure of the sea, the city of La Paz is worth exploring. Starting along the shores, take a stroll along the promenade running alongside the Malecon, ducking into one of the numerous shops that sell handmade jewelry and crafts, stopping at café in the to people watch, or simply admiring at the peaceful sunsets. At night, music from live bands wafts through the warm air to make for an interesting night out.

Just a short drive outside of the center of town is some of the best beaches in Baja California. Playa el Coromel is a local favorite, and sits only five miles out of city. Playa el Tecolote is just 16 miles away, and here beachgoers will find sparkling blue waters, white sand beaches, and a lovely view of Isla Espiritu Santo. The hidden Playa Balandra is a unique find with a sandbar that spans the entire length of bay.
