If you’re looking for the best base to explore the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure on the planet, Lizard Island is the place to be. The reef stretches for more than 2,600 km along the Queensland coast and is made up of nearly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands. It’s considered a natural wonder of the world and the entire area is a World Heritage Site.
