What to see and do in Martinborough ?

Martinborough has something to delight and amaze anyone and everyone from child to adult. You can visit the gorgeous Patuna Chasm, filled with greenery and waterfalls, or even one of the settings for blockbuster The Lord of the Rings. There are also beautiful wineries, and you might even be able to pop in for a taste test or two!

Martinborough is full of little wonders such as the Patuna Chasm. Plan a day trip here so you can fully appreciate the beauty of this place. It is populated by many a native animal, and if you’re lucky you might even spot a fossil or two! Pack a picnic lunch and sprawl out in style, before jumping into some of the pools here to cool down. There are many different spots here to relax, so you won’t be infringing on anyone else’s territory, and you can enjoy your day the way you want to!

You can also visit the Putangirua Pinnacles, otherwise known as the ‘Paths of the Dead’ in the last Lord of the Rings movie. Just a humble hour’s drive from Martinborough, they guard the entrance to Aorangi Forest Park, and you can climb up these pillars yourself. There are two ways to get to the top, through a simple bush walk, or you can follow the riverbed as well. It’s not a hard trek, and you will be rewarded with a stunning view of the land around you when you finally reach the peak.

If you visit Martinborough, you have to pop in to at least one of the wineries they have here. Choose from Te Kairanga, Schubert Wines, Margrain Vineyard, Cambridge Road and much more. They are located quite close to each other, so you can even plan a couple of days around visiting these wineries. If you don’t feel like going it alone, you can join a Gourmet Wine Tour, which will take you around all the award winning vineyards, as well as providing you with some excellent food to pair with your wine. If you’re looking for something a little bit different, you can go cycling through the vineyards before relaxing in a special picnic area.
