Travel to Qatar

Qatar has been independent since 1971 and it has earned its reputation as a high income country. Backed by some of the world’s largest oil and natural gas reserves, the growth over the last 40+ years has been phenomenal. That growth has led to a combination of Old World hospitality, cosmopolitan sophistication, and an opportunity to enjoy some of the finer things in life when it comes to relaxation.

Qatar might offer visitors a chance to explore modern markets for hidden gems, but it also offers an opportunity to get outside and explore nature in all of its warm. Khor Al Udeid is a popular destination thanks to its many rolling sand dunes. Rent a vehicle and race up and down the dunes for a fun and completely unique experience.

REMEMBER – Qatar is only bordered by Saudi Arabia, to its south, and the Persian Gulf surrounds the remainder of the country. At times it gets hot – very hot – with temperatures exceeding 40C from June to September, but it’s mild, in the low 20s, or lower, at the beginning and end of the year.

You’ll find history is available to explore in Qatar as well. Zubarah contains the ruins of a deserted fort and city that was built in 1938. A visit to the Pearl Qatar is also in order. It’s a man-made island that is connected to Doha via bridge, where you’ll find a wide variety of fine dining experiences and high end shops.

Visiting Qatar is fairly simple for most visitors. Visas are available upon arrival when you fly into the Doha airport. Payment by credit card is accepted and the visitation visa allows for a stay of up to 30 days.

Water sports are common, which means there are also many beaches to enjoy. If you’re looking for a great way to introduce yourself to this part of the world, Qatar is one of the best places to visit

Best of Qatar

A Middle East powerhouse and a rising tourism destination, Qatar has something for everyone, from beautiful beaches to towering desert dunes and so much more. Qatar holidays are also an opportunity to discover the country’s rich culture and heritage that stretches back many thousands of years. Qatar’s massive natural gas reserves have propelled this absolute monarchy to the world’s richest country by capita, and Qatar has been investing heavily in its tourism infrastructure, spending billions in order to compete with other detonations in the Arab World and become a leader. The capital, Doha, is on the east coast and is an enthralling place to visit.

Doha, the capital, is a great city to begin your Qatar holidays. A large and new airport has been opened just outside it to cope with surging tourism and business demand in the country. Hamad International Airport has a projected passenger capacity of at least 50 million a year, far in excess of the longstanding Doha International Airport. Around 50km north of the capital is the coastal city of Al Khor. It has some excellent beaches and is an interesting place to stay and explore. The same distance in the opposite direction from Doha is the resort area of Mesaieed.

Start your Qatar holidays off with a helping of art and culture, at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the capital. The strikingly designed building houses collections of Islamic art, textiles and ceramics from all over the world, and even though it’s relatively new it has rapidly become a leading global museum.

For a thrilling adventure, head out into the desert and go on safari. If you can handle some high-octane desert activity, dune bashing in four-wheel-drive vehicles with skilled drivers is a rollercoaster up, down and along the great piles of sand. You can also go skiing and sandboarding on the dunes.

For the best shopping in Qatar, it has to be the spectacular Villaggio Mall in Doha. It has all the top international brands as well as a Gondolania Theme Park, featuring a rollercoaster, bowling alley and Olympic-size ice rink. Visitors can take gondola rides on a canal running through the mall.

Among the other attractions for visitors in Qatar are the Barzan Towers in Umm Salal, near to Doha. They were built as watchtowers at the start of the 20th century. About 20km outside of Doha is the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, an interesting museum built by the sheik on his own land, a farm. It contains a large number of objects, such as manuscripts and fossils, that he collected on his travels around the world. Katara Cultural Village in the capital showcases art and has an amphitheatre that’s used for opera, drama and concerts. It also has a number of good restaurants.

Souq Waqif is a bustling marketplace in the heart of Doha and is a major tourism area. As well as picking up souvenirs, spices and items of clothing, you can also dine at some wonderful restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world.
