Travel to Yemen
The Republic of Yemen is located to the south of Saudi Arabia and has more than 2,000km of coastline to explore. It is a land where there are ancient artifacts that date to the first century, ruins of ancient civilizations explore, and resort areas where you can kick back and relax in whatever way suits you best.
There are six regions in Yemen to explore. The coastal plains bring visitors to the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea and their stunning views. The Yemeni Mountains rise up steeply, providing numerous outdoor adventure opportunities. The highlands are rich in cultural offerings. The Empty Quarter, the hot deserts of Yemen, are virtually uninhabited because the climate is so difficult. More than 100 islands can be found in the Red Sea to explore, while Socotra sits out in the Arabian Sea.
On Socotra, there are several rare animals and plant species to find. The waters around the island are turquoise and the beaches are beautiful and white. If you didn’t know it, you’d swear you were visiting the Caribbean Sea when you make your way to this stunning island.
When visiting Yemen, make sure that Shibam is at or near the top of your list of things to do. This beautiful city, constructed in the 16th century, features mud-built high-rise apartments that have been designated a world heritage site. The history of the city dates to at least the 2nd century. Some of the mud buildings are more than 16 stories tall. Find a small café, interesting souvenirs, and have a good time.
Yemen is a nation with an extensive history to explore. Bring some comfortable shoes and be prepared to have an adventure.
