How is the weather in Greece ?
Greece is located in Southern Europe, being considered one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
With one of the most fascinating histories and mythologies, with its idyllic islands and sandy beaches, with its ruins and awesome natural landscapes, Greece is rightly one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Officially named the Hellenic Republic, Greece is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It is mainly surrounded by water, but its northern land borders are with Albania, Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey. To the east lies the Aegean Sea, while to the west is the Ionian Sea and to the south the Mediterranean. Greece has an impressive number of over 1,400 islands, most of them uninhabited.
Modern Greece has its roots in Ancient Greece, a huge and influential power within the ancient world. Considered by most as the cradle of western civilization, Greece has given the world so many, including democracy, philosophy, literature, the Olympic Games, theatre and many other things. Greece is also a place of legends and myths, some of the most beautiful stories of mankind originating here. Its cultural heritage is best described by the 17 UNESCO world heritage sites, making it one of the richest countries in the world in these terms. These sites, although forming just a small portion of the true tourist potential, are surely a testament to the richness and beauty of Greece. The 17 sites are: the Acropolis of Athens, Archaeological Site of Aigai (Vergina), Archaeological Site of Delphi, Archaeological Site of Mystras, Archaeological Site of Olympia, Archaeological Site of Mycenae and Tiryns, Delos, Historic Centre of Delos with the Monastery of St. John, Medieval City of Rhodes, Monasteries of Daphni, Hosios Loukas and Nea Moni of Chios, Old Town of Corfu, Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki, Pythagoreion and Heraion of Samos, Sanctuary of Asklepios at Eidaurus, Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae, Meteora and Mount Athos.
Apart from these famous sites, all the landscape of Greece is dotted by ruins and ancient relics, starting with the capital Athens and its rich cultural heritage. Apart from these magnificent historical and archaeological treasures, Greece is a deeply religious country, with a strong Orthodox religion and you can find many beautiful monasteries and churches everywhere in the country. Apart from this cultural heritage, Greece is also a place of great natural beauty, with landscapes that amaze travelers. There are many natural landmarks that are worth a visit, but the best of them are protected inside national parks and Greece has plenty of them: Ainos National Park, Alonissos Marine Park, Oeta National Park, Olympus National Park, Parnassos National Park, Parnitha National Park, Prespes National Park, Samara National Park, Sounio National Park, Vikos-Aoos National Park, Zakynthos National Marine Park.
Another part of Greece revolves around the sea, sun and sand, with its crystal clear waters and sandy beaches. There are so many summer destinations in Greece that it would take forever to name them all. Reminding just a few of the beautiful islands in the Aegean, Ionic or Mediterranean Sea will give you the true notion of paradise: Zakynthos, Corfu, Crete, Thasos, Delos, Rhodes, Delos, Paros, Santorini, Kos, Mikonos, Skiathos and many others. The mainland also has some amazing beaches, although not as charming as the ones on the islands. The best destinations remain Paralia and Halkidiki. Any of these places has much more than beaches and resorts to offer, as you can always find something interesting closely.
