Vacation in Italy

Few places can compare with Italy as a romantic and culturally rich vacation destination. Known for its warm and welcoming people, fabulous food, dazzling architecture and relaxed atmosphere, Italy is the perfect destination for a family getaway or a romantic trip for couples of any age. Wine tasting, a gondola ride through the waterways of Venice, getting up close and personal with the works of the Renaissance masters in Tuscany, and stepping back in time to the grandeur of ancient Rome all await the happy traveler who chooses Italy as his destination.

The picturesque waterways and old architecture of Venice provide the classic backdrop for a romantic getaway. After a day of visiting Venice’s wondrous architectural landmarks, like the Moore’s Tower and the Palazzo Ducale, you can relax and sip a cappuccino at Italy’s oldest cafe, the Caffè Florian, which opened its doors in 1720. In the heart of Tuscany, the regional capital of Florence retains the timeless dignity and charm of Renaissance Italy. A favorite among architectural buffs and museum goers, visitors to Italy should not miss the vast collection of renaissance art displayed in Florence’s museums, many of which are housed in historic monuments.

Few places in the world can charm the senses and imagination like Italy. From Milan in the north to the capital and further south, no two cities are identical. Because of the nature of Italy’s historical development, regional cultures developed independently of each other through much of modern history, and each region has its own unique feel.

Florence is a must-see city for art lovers and history buffs, but even the least interested visitor can’t help but gawk at the magnificence of the Renaissance. Just strolling through the old city streets is like walking through an art gallery, and wherever you are in the city, the works of one of the great masters are never far away.

Rome is as cosmopolitan and fast-paced as any other European capital, but behind the city stands the glory of Ancient Rome. Don’t miss Vatican City and the crowning glory of Renaissance Architecture, St. Peter’s Basilica. The Colosseum and the Temple of Venus and Rome, the ruins of what is thought to have been the largest temple in Rome, are only a short trip away on public transit.

While Venice is certainly better known for its romantic canals and impressive buildings, the city is also famous for its numerous museums, and in recent years has been gaining quite a reputation as a center for excellent restaurants.

Milan houses some of Italy’s most celebrated museums, and is the modern capital of Italian opera. Fans of classical music and opera will have plenty to sink their teeth into at the historic Teatro La Scala, and shopping fans can’t go wrong here – as the fashion capital of Italy, Milan is the best place to hunt for the latest designer fashions. The city’s bustling night-life and endless variety of excellent restaurants also makes it an ideal vacation destination for food lovers.

The best parts, however, of an Italian voyage are often the intangible – the smell of the air in St. Peter’s, the awe we get when looking at the Coliseum and other marvels of the ancient world, and the pleasure of being face-to-face with works of art we’ve only ever read about in books.
