Travel to Solomon Islands
With over 900 islands, the Solomon Islands form an archipelago that lies to the northeast of Australia. The islands have been inhabited since before records have been kept, though Alvaro de Mendana is credited with the island’s discovery. The islands have been independent since 1978.
Honiara is a hub of activities for those who come to visit these islands You’ll find that the flea markets bustle with activity, providing you with a wide array of local wares from which to choose. The markets are a good place to restock on your supplies as well. Then head over to the Vilu War Museum to see the various equipment and local ruins from past civilizations that are on display in an open-air environment.
You can also access the small, but beautiful, Tenaru Falls from Honiara. The trek to the falls is about 4km in length one way, so plan for a full day to complete the journey. Many hotels can book a guided tour to the falls if you wish.
The Solomon Islands have many stunning beaches to enjoy as well. Try Marovo Lagoon for calm seas at this island resort. World-class diving is available and visibility is routinely up to 50 meters. From shipwrecks to reef walls, it has a little something for everyone.
There are certain challenges that must be faced when planning a holiday to the Solomon Islands, but it is an effort that is well worth making. You will find the beaches to be beautiful, the hospitality to be warm and inviting, and the days to be long and relaxing.
