The Federated States of Micronesia, or FSM if one prefers, is a sovereign nation and an associated state of the United States. It consists of 4 states in total: Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap, from east to west respectively. About 600 islands make up this nation, located south of the Marianas, but northeast of New Guinea.

Unlike other tropical islands of the Pacific Ocean, the islands of Micronesia are relatively remote.
