Much of Providence’s attractions are condensed into four neighborhoods with distinct personalities, each with an atmosphere to suit your vacation. The Downtown area puts visitors in the heart of the city where visitors are very close to the largest transportation hub, Kennedy Plaza. The buzzing neighborhood of Federal Hill is known for its nightlife that will keep you going late into the night. College hill, home to Brown University, retains a unique feel as it is home to several eclectic shops and restaurants. Dive into Rhode Island’s past and present on your vacation to Providence. You can visit several historical sites that date back to the 18th century such as Governor Henry Lippett House Museum or the John Brown House Museum. Visitors can also view the oldest Baptist Church in the United States as well as read a book from the Athenaeum, a private library built in 1753.
Head over to the Rhode Island State House, which, besides being the state’s capitol, also displays the flag from the lunar landing of Apollo landing as well as the famous full-length portrait of George Washington by Rhode Island’s Gilbert Stuart.
