Travel to Santa Fe

The city of Santa Fe has a long history, having been founded by Spanish colonists in 1610. That makes it the oldest state capital in the United States.

The name of the city literally means “holy faith.” Before the colonists arrived, the Tewa tribe had an established community here as well for several hundred years.

This has made Santa Fe a community that is rich and diverse in culture. That richness attracted a large arts community, writers, and even retirees who wanted to experience the landscapes personally. That helped to create one of the most unique cities in the western United States.

The historic downtown is where much of the city’s life can be discovered. The plaza next to the Palace of the Governors has seen over 400 years of markets, restaurants, and shops come and go. Just down the street is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assis and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum as well.

If you want to enjoy a sunrise or a sunset while in Santa Fe, the Cross of the Martyrs is the best place to go. The trail to the summit is an interactive experience, offering visitors a chance to learn more about the history of the city. The climb can be somewhat taxing, but the 360-degree views are worth the exercise investment.
