Search cheapest vacation in Cannes
Known for hosting an internationally renowned film festival, Cannes, France is the definition of cosmopolitan. It is also a city that goes beyond celebrities and film; Cannes boasts panoramic scenery, beautiful beaches and perfect opportunities to people-watch, a favorite pastime among locals and tourists alike. Gaze at beautiful architecture and cobbled streets from Le Suquet or at street side tables on the rue Meynadier. Some of the most romantic dining opportunities are at restaurants in the historic quarter of Le Cannet, a northern suburb of Cannes. Good for family fun, a romantic getaway, or a trip with pals, a Cannes vacation is only a click away!
The Promenade de la Croisette is definitely one of if not Cannes’s most popular feature. Stretching along the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, this road is a little over mile and runs completely down the coastline of Cannes. The boulevard provides views of the harbor, which is home to a pirate ship built for a film and other lesser-known but equally extravagant yachts. International designer shops line La Croisette from Chanel to Dior to Gucci. On the other side of the promenade are Cannes’s famous sandy beaches, including the Boulevard Eugene-Gazagnair, which reaches north to the Port du Moure Rouge.
With its casinos, booming nightlife, and high-end restaurants, this seaside town is considered to be one of the social centers of Europe.
Even if you’re not in Cannes during the famous film festival, you can still experience some of that movie magic by visiting the famous Palais des Festivals where actors and actresses gather together and watch film screened during the festival. It is almost tradition to pose for a photo on the 22 steps leading up to the entrance.
Hop on a ferry and visit the Iles de Lerins. St. Honorat, the smaller of the two bays, has a monastery and a ruined castle where monks sell monastery-made food and drink products, which are excellent souvenirs to have. Ste. Marguerite, the larger of the bays, has shops, bars, restaurants and coves, which are perfect to snorkel by and swim around.
If you care to run away with your imagination, visit the Tour du Masque, a popular attraction for history and literary buffs. It is rumored that the Tour de Masque is haunted by the ghost of the mythical and mysterious figure known as the “Man in the Iron Mask.” For more history, take a tour around the Musee d’Art et d’Historie de Provence, which is a museum that chronicles life in Provence from prehistoric times to the present day through paintings, traditional costumes, furniture and pottery.
Learn some French at the weekly Franglish, which is a French/English language exchange event held at different venues across Cannes where you can practice your French and get to know the city more by chumming up with some of the locals.
Take a break from the congested city and take advantage of the daily cruises the city has to offer. Trans Cote d’Azur runs day trips to St. Tropez and Monaco where you can relax under the sky and enjoy the beautiful landscape of red cliffs, green forests and dazzling azure waters.
