How do you get the cheapest tickets to Tokyo ?

Nowhere else in the world will you be able to find a place where ancient traditions and modern-day technology coexist most peacefully than in Tokyo. Japan’s capital encompasses 23 central city wards brimming with palaces, financial centers, temples and shrines, contemporary museums, amusement parks, and seafood markets. Originally known as Edo, Tokyo is now the political and economic center of Japan. Use the modern skyscrapers for all your photo ops, shop along the world famous streets of Ginza, and update your technological closet with the electronics in Akihabara. Go on vacation to Tokyo; you know you want to.

Though Tokyo is vast, the mass transit system makes visitors feel like their stay is safe, well-traveled, and clean; plus it is easy to get around. Most visitors find it convenient to stay in the Central and Downtown Tokyo areas with its many attractions and easy access to the train system. The area of Yamanote, which is located uptown, contains most of Tokyo’s cultural and historic attractions. Clusters of hotels are located near the Tokyo Station, and other popular areas include Shitamachi, Roppongi, Shinjuku, and Ginza. For a traditional Japanese experience, reside at Ueno and Asakusa.

Tokyo is one of those places where you need to take advantage of the landscape. For a panoramic view of Tokyo, climb up to the observation decks of Tokyo Tower, located at the center of Tokyo. This Eiffel Tower-inspired structure offers an impressive 360° view with Mount Fuji in the background.

History, royalty, grace, and elegance are found throughout Tokyo’s ancestral landmarks. The big attractions are the Imperial Palace and Imperial East Gardens. The Imperial Palace, surrounded by moats and stonewalls, is the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family and is located on the original site of Edo Castle. Although the inner grounds of the palace are not open to the public, with exceptions on January 2 and December 23, there are guided tours to view certain areas of the palace grounds and the Imperial Palace East Gardens.

Another of Tokyo’s important landmarks includes the Meiji Shrine, a Shinto memorial dedicated to the emperor who opened Japan to the West. See the beautiful 12-meter tori gate at the entrance to the park. Dip into the communal water tank like the locals who purify their hands and mouth before offering up their prayers and maybe catch a glimpse of a traditional Japanese wedding.

For all those visitors who do not mind getting up so early, visit Tsukiji at 5am to watch the live seafood auctions and see the bartering techniques of the vendors. After the auctions, partake a fresh sushi breakfast that makes the Japanese food at home pale in comparison.

All you shoppers out there, kids included, have an unlimited number of options. Go to Ginza for high-end luxury brands. Akihabara has the best deals for the latest models of electronics and gadgets. Asakusa for is great for pottery, handicrafts, and the occasional glimpse of Kimono-clad women. Do take home some of the Japanese antiques and souvenirs found in the Asakusa temple markets.

The Harajuku and Shibuya area give fashionistas incredible trendy fashion and cosmetic items to add to their wardrobes. Shinjuku’s department stores are great for the visitors who want everything on sale. Popular souvenir items are yukatas, kokeshi dolls, woodblock prints, and Hello Kitty, anime and manga items. For a bargain, at least from the Japanese perspective, visit the 100yen shops found all over the city.

At night, families and couples can mingle with the locals and expats at sake bars, nightclubs, discos, and restaurants in areas like Roppongi, Ginza, and Shinjuku. Eat Japanese specialties like tempura, sukiyaki, tonkatsu, and shabu-shabu. The kids will gobble them up and so will you.
